Slow down and listen

the voices we’re afraid to hear have wisdom

I was in a cave of quiet dark, pulled into more questions than answers. The season of summer which represents light and joy and rest, felt more like winter. I wanted to burrow into this skin and let myself sink into hibernation.

You can’t turn rainstorms into sunshine by pretending to ignore the pool of heavy waters inside. Sometimes you’re meant to swim and sometimes you’re meant to be taken under. Down.

I needed to go down, talk to the voices that got buried. The I don’t know and I don’t care and I’m fucking tired.

How can the voice of I don’t care have a message that holds wisdom? How can a voice that feels bitter and tired offer anything other than annoyance?

Michael Meade says that “Slow and down are modes of the soul.”⠀⠀⠀

Often times when we slow down we realize the voices we suppress just need us to stop judging them. When we slow down, we connect to our true self, our core. And when we connect to that, there is always wisdom. The voice of negative self-talk may come from a need to be seen and loved. The voice of I’m fucking tired may really be saying I need a day off from phone calls or emails.

When we ignore the buried voices, they become louder, monsters that feel too scary…
